Part of why the Minnesota Vikings cut former punter Chris Kluwe was due to his performance in the 2012 season. However, do the Vikings have a statistical case? The Vikings claim that Kluwe didn’t have a lot of fair catches. Judging a punter based solely off of his fair catch calls is a poor way to go about business as there are many reasons why a fair catch wouldn’t be called such as kicks out of bounds and special teams plays such as fumbles, tackles for loss. In 2012, Kluwe’s last year with the Vikings, Adrian Peterson had a monster year and was picking up first downs left and right. So Kluwe would have been punting less as Peterson was giving the team more first downs.
