According to USA TODAY Vanderbuilt has started today to replace James Franklin who has left Nashville to become the head coach at Penn State. It will not be easy to replace Franklin after what he has done in three short years as the head coach at Vanderbuilt.
Derek Mason, who is the Stanford defensive coordinator and UL-Lafayette head coach Mark Hudspeth could emerge as candidates to replace James Franklin at Vanderbilt, according to CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman. SB Nation’s Steven Godfrey and Football Scoop also are reporting that Vandy could stay in-house by hiring defensive coordinator Bob Shoop or offensive line coach Herb Hand.
Whoever takes over for Franklin will have it a great deal easier than he did when he arrived in Nashville.
Because of Franklin Vanderbilt found its identity in the Southeastern Conference, where it had stood for generations as the annual whipping boy for long-held powers like Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and others.
