HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — University of Connecticut President Susan Herbst says the school has no problem with the westward expansion of the Big East conference.
The conference introduced five new schools on Wednesday. Central Florida, Houston and Southern Methodist are joining as full members. Boise State and San Diego State will become members for football.
In a statement, Herbst says she believes the expansion will help showcase UConn, “far and wide.” She says the school will be working to minimize the travel costs for fans and the school.
Men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun told reporters today that while the conference needed teams that can get into football bowls, he also would like to see one or two more major basketball schools. He said he would like to see Temple join The Big East.
