Tigers, Brian Wilson In “Serious Negotations”

Lynn Henning of the Detroit News reports that Brian Wilson met yesterday with Brad Ausmus and his agent, Dan Lozano, in Los Angeles an that the Tigers and the free agent closer are in “serious” negotiations.

The Tigers are known to be looking for a 9th inning man after losing RHP Joaquin Benoit to free agency. Bruce Rondon was once heralded as the team’s future closer, and it’s easy to see why given his average fastball velocity of 97.9 MPH in 2013. However, the Tigers feel that the young right-hander still needs more time in the majors before being able to handle the responsibility of the ninth inning.
