The 2014 IndyCar series will as always kickoff with the The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, scheduled to take place March 28-30. Many race fans will notice that the title sponsor is now Firestone who replaced Honda in that all important role as the races marquee sponsor.
After a nine year relationship Honda pulled out as the races title sponsor last month and Firestone was quick to move to take their place. At a press briefing yesterday race organizers and sponsors were very happy with the new deal.
“I can’t say how great it is that Firestone recognized the value of this race and stepped forward,” said Tim Ramsberger, the race president. Meanwhile, the new sponsor was also quite pleased with this opening for his company to be involved with the event.
“Motorsports is an integral part of the Firestone brand marketing efforts, and the entitlement sponsorship of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg aligns perfectly with our plans,” said Lisa Boggs, director of Bridgestone Americas Motorsports, in a statement. She went on to say “Our commitment to the race is a reflection of our longstanding relationship with Green Savoree and the terrific St. Petersburg community and fans.”
The street race in St. Petersburg has been one of the most successful races on the IndyCar circuit and one that the drivers love. Because it is run along the bay front area you get that beautiful shots of the water and the palm trees that line the streets.
This year the race will air on ABC but if you have never been to the race then ny all means go and check it out. You will enjoy it.
