The Royals have discussed dealing outfielder Wil Myers, one of the highest regarded prospects in baseball, to the Red Sox or Rays in an attempt to find an ace, according to The Kansas City Star’s Bob Dutton.
The Royals and Red Sox have discussed a trade involving Myers going to Boston for left-handed starting pitcher Jon Lester. They have also discussed dealing Myers to the Rays for right-handed starting pitcher James Shields.
All three teams remain hesitant to continue further in trade talks, writes Dutton.
Myers, who turns 22 in December, hit .314/.387/.600 with 37 home runs in 591 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A in 2012. He is the Royals’ best prospect, according to Baseball America.
