Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, one of the best baseball sources, reports that the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers are the two teams that are best fit to acquire Rays pitcher David Price. That’s if the Rays deal him this month, however.
Tampa has been inquiring about top young position players in teams but with their recent success, teams have noticed that the Rays are in no hurry to push Price out the door. The Rays have won 14 out of their last 21 games.
“I think they will wait as long as possible — maybe (even) 12 months,” an executive with one rival team said.
The Rays stand at 42-52 and are nine games out of first place in the AL East, 8 1/2 games out of the wild card.
Here’s more from Heyman:
If a deal is to get done, the Dodgers and Cardinals would seem to make the most sense due to their known interest, their position in the National League (the Rays are believed to be especially reluctant to trade stars to their AL East rivals) and their big-time positional prospects. Los Angeles and St. Louis also have excellent young pitchers and pitching prospects to enhance their packages.
