The Red Sox and Pirates have agreed to a deal that will send Joel Hanrahan to Boston, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN.com (on Twitter) Jerry Sands and Stolmy Pimentel will go to Pittsburgh in the swap and there will be more players involved in the deal.
There will be two more players headed to the Bucs in the deal, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (on Twitter). The trade is pending physicals for all involved.
Edes reports that Melancon could also be going to the Pirates in the trade. The 27-year-old right-hander pitched to a 6.20 ERA with 8.2 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 45 relief innings with the Red Sox after being acquired from the Astros last winter. He also spent some time in Triple-A.
