Napoli has emerged as the Sox’ No. 1 pursuit, while several other free agent options, including right fielder/first baseman Nick Swisher, have assumed “1A” status, an industry source told the Herald yesterday. And Napoli may decide where he will play next season even before the start of the winter meetings Monday in Nashville, Tenn.
Last Saturday, Napoli met with Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington, manager John Farrell and even principal owner John Henry, according to an American League source. But the Sox face competition from Napoli’s most recent team, the Texas Rangers, who hosted the 31-year-old yesterday.
