Unrestricted free-agent goalie Ray Emery has agreed to terms on a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, according to multiple reports on Friday morning. It’s believed that Emery will sign a one-year contract with the team.
This marks Emery’s second stint with Philadelphia as he signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the team prior to the 2009-10 season. The hope is that his second run with the Flyers is more successful than his first as he was diagnosed with avascular necrosis, which is a disease that kills the cells of bones by cutting off the blood supply. While it was caught early enough to ultimately save Emery’s career (it wasn’t clear at the time whether he would be able to play again), it effectively ended his season after only 29 games.
