It seems like every day a new team is interested in trading for the Tampa Bay Rays talented pitcher David Price. Yesterday we reported that the Dodgers were attempting to get creative to land the talented lefty. This morning after talking to a director of scouting for National League team who did not want to be identified, he seems to feel that both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs will be able to offer the Rays real value for Price.
So what is real value for a player with the talents of young Mr. Price?
Well D’Backs GM Kevin Towers told the media in Arizona that he would be looking to add a top of the rotation starting pitcher and it would likely come via the trade route. Towers was quick to say that no player is untouchable, he sounded loath to part with prized pitching prospect Archie Bradley, a consensus Top 10 MLB prospect. But if he wants Price then Bradley would likely be headed to the Bay Area.
The Arizona farm system is deep with good young arms and some big bats. In addition to enviable pitching depth, the Diamondbacks also have several intriguing top infielder’s with speed and pop in their bats. Guys like Didi Gregorius, Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed. Martin Prado‘s presence means that Arizona could also be inclined to include Matt Davidson in potential trades, and the presence of both A.J. Pollock could mean that Adam Eaton could be had in a trade.
How about the Chicago Cubs?
Theo Epstein wants to make a statement and the Cubs president of baseball operations, would be willing to part with perhaps as many as two of the teams top prospects. Players like Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Arismendy Alcantara, C.J. Edwards and Jorge Soler all would be of interest to the Rays.
Next week in Orlando with some luck when the baseball world heads to Disney World for the Winter Meetings we will see the rumors fade away and the truth come out. Are the Rays parting with David Price? If so who will get him? One thing we do know if he is moved it will take a boat load of talent to land the left handed star.
