Pre Game: Rays & Tigers

The Tampa Bay Rays face a tough match up trying to end their breif two game losing skid in former Cy Young winner Justin Verlander (8-5, 3.90) and the Detroit Tigers. They send 22-year old youngster Chris Archer (2-3, 4.21) to the hill to try and combat a hard-hitting Tigers’ lineup.

Evan Longoria said his plantar fasciitis is enough to keep him out of the lineup, but he does not believe it is serious enough to land him on the disabled list.

Joe Maddon said although he likes where his team is at right now after 81 games, he knows they could’ve done better and expects more from them for the second half stretch. He also said he likes having Ryan Roberts back from Triple A during Longoria’s absence due to his versatility, and mentioned he likes having Kelly Johnson manning third during the time as well.
