Peyton Manning AFC Offensive Player Of The Week

Denver_Manning_2013There are plenty of ways to wind up being named the AFC offensive player of the week, but there’s probably no surer way to do it than tying an NFL record for the most touchdown passes in a single game.

That’s what Peyton Manning did by throwing seven touchdowns in the Broncos’ season-opening 49-27 victory over the Ravens. It’s the 24th time in Manning’s career that he’s been so honored, more than any other player.

Manning became the fifth player in league history (George Blanda threw seven touchdowns in an AFL game) to throw seven touchdown passes in the game and the first since Joe Kapp did it in 1969. In addition, Manning set or tied records for the most games with four, five and six touchdown passes while extending his own record for the most games with three touchdown passes.
