A guaranteed spot in the 2013 postseason for Orlando City Soccer was taken away in the 1-0 loss against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saturday night. The loss also didn’t help Orlando’s chances of gaining home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Orlando did have Kevin Molino, the 2012 USL Pro MVP back on the roster. Molino returned after playing for his country Trinidad and Tobago in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Even with Molino back on the roster, Orlando just couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net. The best chance they had was in the 49th minute with a through ball from Molino into Jean Alexandre but it was just out of reach. But the game deciding goal came in the 52nd minute from a header by Riverhounds’ Ryan Kinne that came off a cross from Stefan Lundberg.
Orlando City’s head coach Adrian Heath said that when it came to the game Saturday night that he was a little at a loss for words.
“Training’s been so good this week that I was really looking forward to the game tonight.”
Heath went on to say that the team moved the ball too slowly and that the quality on the ball wasn’t good enough.
Saturday’s match was the first of six games in 15 days for Orlando and it was one of two on the weekend with an away game at VSI Tampa FC on Sunday night. The next couple games will be pivotal in helping Orlando win their third-straight USL PRO Regular Season Championship.
