MLB RUMORS: David Price
Rays ace David Price walked off the mound Wednesday after he had completed a 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He tipped his cap and waved to the 23,671 fans in attendance and acknowledged that this may be his last game.
“If this is my last game here, thanks,” he said later, per the Tampa Bay Times.
Although no trades are imminent, the Rays are expected to trade Price in order to acquire maximum value in attempt to get younger talent. It’s how the Rays operate, trading players in their prime. Its a little controversial and it gets fan’s underpants in a bunch.
The Times reports that almost a dozen teams had scouts at the Trop Wednesday afternoon to watch Price, including two each from the Blue Jays and Royals. Along with those two teams, the Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers and Giants are among the teams said to be serious suitors for Price.
The Rays are heading out on a long road trip and Price’s next couple starts are scheduled for Tuesday in New York and on July 6 in Detroit. This could be why scouts are getting in on the action now.
