Michael Young and his agents at the MVP Sports Group have reached out to the Orioles and Red Sox, according to Peter Gammons of the MLB Network (Twitter link).
Young could present a logical fit for the Orioles as insurance for Manny Machado as he recovers from knee surgery. Baltimore also has uncertainty surrounding its second base and DH situations currently, though it’s been years since Young played second base with any regularity.
Boston, too, has some uncertainty in the infield with the potential departures of Stephen Drew and Mike Napoli and Young could provide them insurance at each corner infield position.
This past season was the first year of Young’s Major League career in which he did not don a Texas Rangers uniform as he approved a trade to the Phillies last offseason and later, to the Dodgers. Between Philadelphia and Los Angeles, Young batted .279/.335/.395 with eight home runs, playing primarily at the infield corners.
