The New York Mets have placed top prospect and right-hander Noah Syndergaard on the minor-league disabled list with a “flexor pronator strain” in his elbow, the team announced. The injury is being described as “mild,” though he is heading to New York for additional tests.
Syndergaard, 21, was acquired from the Blue Jays as part of the R.A. Dickey trade after the 2012 season. He has since emerged as one of the top pitching prospects in the game — Baseball America ranked him as the sixth-best pitching prospect in baseball before the season — and was expected to make his MLB debut later this season.
