New York Mets ace Matt Harvey is eight months out from Tommy John surgery right now and his throwing program is ongoing. He was scheduled to throw off a mound on Tuesday, but the team has pushed that back according to Kristie Ackert at New York Daily News.
“He’s fine,. It’s nothing physical, it’s just a plan to be more cautious,” said a team source to Ackert. “If something happens to him, that would just be a huge blow,. We just want him to take it a little slower. Nobody wants him to be less competitive, we just want to be cautious.”
Harvey had his surgery last October and has made it no secret that he wants to pitch in games late this year. That would be pushing it too much too fast and after posing the situation to Dr. James Andrews, the team has decided to slow it down a bit. Their goal now is Opening Day 2015.
