As one of the first calls the Los Angeles Lakers made in free agency, Carmelo Anthony will meet with the team Thursday, according to Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein of ESPN.
Other than Anthony, the Lakers contacted free agent LeBron James and Pau Gasol within the first hour of free agency. The Lakers are making the task of convincing both James and Anthony to leave their teams and join in Los Angeles their priority.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, James is not scheduling any meetings with teams. He will let his agent, Rich Paul, handle all of that.
He’s seeking a full max-level extension, no matter where he signs, and the Lakers are just one of seven teams with the cap space to do so. Along with the Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.
