Both ESPN and USA today feel that it is only a matter of a few days before James Franklin will leave Vanderbuilt and replace Bill O’Brian at Penn State.
Franklin has taken Vanderbilt to a bowl game during each of his three seasons at the Nashville-based private school.
The Commodores completed a second consecutive 9-4 season with a win over Houston in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
Until 2012, Vanderbilt had not won nine games in a season since 1915 and had only two nine-win seasons in school history.
But Franklin is someone who is the hottest coaches around, he was a finalist for the Texas job and is scheduled to meet with the Washington Redskins about their opening. Unlike, O’Brien and the legendary Joe Paterno, Franklin is a high energy guy who more like a Bill Cowher. Someone who does not hide emotion and is very outgoing. At this point we will see how this plays out, but at least for today, it looks like Franklin will end up at Penn State.
