CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami Hurricanes basketball player DeQuan Jones has received approval to return to competition after sitting out the season’s first 10 games because of an NCAA investigation of allegations he was recruited with the help of $10,000 in cash from a booster.
The school issued a brief release Tuesday saying the decision was made in consultation with the NCAA. The school said it would have no further comment “in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing joint inquiry.”
Jones, a 6-foot-7 senior, was implicated in a scandal that became public in August. While most of the allegations involved the football program, Yahoo Sports reported an ex-booster said he provided cash to Miami basketball coaches to recruit Jones. He was a part-time starter last season.
