DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Rory McIlroy had another short week of work by missing the cut for the third straight tournament.
It was only four weeks ago when McIlroy lost in a playoff at Quail Hollow and went back to No. 1 in the world. Since then, the U.S. Open champion missed the cut at The Players Championship, last week in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and at Memorial.
He took two double bogeys in cool, blustery conditions on the back nine. Worse yet, he failed to make a single birdie. McIlroy had a 79 and was at 6-over 150, well beyond the projected cut.
McIlroy is playing next week in the St. Jude Classic before defending his title in the U.S. Open at Olympic Club.
