The New York Giants have signed free agent running back Peyton Hillis, according to FOX Sports’ Mike Garafolo.
Hillis will likely serve as veteran insurance with the team thin at running back. With David Wilson out several weeks with a neck injury, Andre Brown ineligible to return until Week 10 at the earliest, and backup Da’Rel Scott ealing with a hamstring injury, Brandon Jacobs and Michael Cox were the only healthy running backs on the depth chart.
Hillis enjoyed his best season with the Cleveland Browns in 2010, when he rushed for 1,177 yards and made the cover of Madden, but it has been all downhill since then. Hillis spent time as a backup with the Chiefs in 2012 and had a brief stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year before being cut after a lackluster preseason performance and knee injury.
