Gerrit Cole’s Reactions To Being Named Game 5 Starter

ST. LOUIS — The Pittsburgh Pirates weren’t really sure if Gerrit Cole was ready when they called him up from the minor leagues.

Now, the Pirates have so much faith in Cole that he will start the winner-take-all game of the National League Division Series in Busch Stadium against Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals.

Cole was 10-7 with a 3.22 ERA in 19 regular-season starts and was outstanding in his postseason debut, holding the Cardinals to one run and two hits over six innings in Game 2 at Busch Stadium earlier in the series.

Regarding being named the Game 5 starter, Cole had this to say:

“It’s a situation you always dream about being in. I’m excited. It was a great scene there last week, and I’m sure it will be even more intense (Wednesday). It’ll be great.”

First pitch is tonight at 8:07 ET on TBS.
