In 2013 J.D. Martin pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays Triple-A affiliate Durham Bulls and honored as the International League’s Most Valuable Pitcher posting a record of 16-4 with a 2.75 ERA.
Jon Morosi of Foxsports.com (Twitter) reports that Martin has signed to pitch for the Samsung Lions in Korea.
Martin was originally a first round pick (#35 overall [supplemental pick for loss of Manny Ramirez]) by the Cleveland Indians in 2001. After eight seasons with the Indians minor league system he signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals.
He finally made it to the major leagues in 2009 and over the next two seasons he made 24 starts in 2009-2010 with the Nationals posting a record of 6-9 with a 4.32 ERA.
He signed on with the Miami Marlins and spent the 2012 season with their Triple-A affiliate New Orleans Zephyrs before joining the Rays organization prior to the 2013 season.
