It wasn’t too long ago when Kevin Durant said he was tired of finishing second, this year he may be on his way to winning his first NBA MVP.
With point guard Russell Westbrook out until after All-Star break with a right knee injury. Durant has lead the Thunder to a (3-2) record with Westbrook on the bench.
Durant is leading the NBA in scoring (29.2 points per game) and is averring over 35 a game with Westbrook out.
“He is very important to our team, but we still have to go out and play,” Durant said.
Oklahoma (26-7) won’t compete for an NBA title without Westbrook, but they will be able to rack-up regular season games with Durant leading the way. He proved that last night with his game winning jumper last night to go along with 46 points in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
