The New Jersey Devils have placed goalie Martin Brodeur (back) on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 24.

Brodeur, 40, has missed New Jersey’s last two games with a sore back and was originally listed as day-to-day.

Could this open up a window for Lou Lamoriello to make a trade for Roberto Luongo? At 33-years old Loungo isn’t a long-term fix but I doubt the next goalie that starts for the Devils will play 20 plus years for the team. This move would give the Devils time to find or develop a new heir apparent to the goalie throne that is Martin Brodeur.

This would also work well for Loungo, playing for a team that is huge on defense and small on mass media. If Loungo was looking to contend for a cup and have a healthy environment for success New Jersey could be his place.
