The Green Bay Packers have closed in on a long-term extension with all-pro linebacker Clay Matthews.
NFL.com’s Albert Breer reported the deal as a five-year contract worth just over $13 million per year, lining up with what Ian Rapoport predicted earlier in the week.
The extension was expected. It has been reported that the Packers have been trying to work out extensions with Matthews and Aaron Rodgers.
The deal makes Matthews the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL and Rodgers, if he comes to an extension, could become the highest-paid quarterback in the league.
