Chris Gimenez Considering Return To Rays Organization

Chris Gimenez Deciding Between Multiple Teams Including Rays

According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish (Twitter) former Rays catcher Chris Gimenez is considering minor league contracts from the Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, and Oakland Athletics.

Gimenez has had a strange journey since ending the 2013 with the Rays organization. In December he was placed on waivers by the Rays and claimed by the Oakland Athletics and was excited for the opportunity to play near his hometown. “It’s a childhood dream, an absolutely awesome Christmas present” Gimenez said of the opportunity to play near his home in Northern California.

His time in Oakland was short lived as he was designated for assignment at the end of spring training by the A’s and claimed by the Texas Rangers.  He was placed on the Rangers opening day roster but was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock the next day. He refused the assignment and opted for free agency.

If the Rays were to sign Gimenez he would head to Triple-A Durham where he would more than likely be the first option if the Rays were to lose either Ryan Hanigan or Jose Molina to injury.

I am a fan of all sports but am most passionate about baseball. From the fanatical to analytical, nothing about the game escapes me. Being born and raised in Northeast Ohio I'm very familiar with the heartache and pain that sports can bring and hope that I bring some understanding of the other side to my coverage. I will focus mostly on baseball but also cover the Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the most electric franchises in all of sports. Always willing to converse about any sport and have only one rule and that is be respectful at all times.
