Bengals Draft Giovani Bernard

The Bengals and right tackle Andre Smith, No. 8 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100, have come to terms, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday evening.

Smith (6-4, 335) comes off a promising 2012 season, one that saw him start all 16 games for the first time in his NFL career.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Smith struggled with injuries and his conditioning at times earlier in his career. That said, he is only 26 years old, and his talent is obvious.

Not long after news of Smith’s agreement with Cincinnati surfaced, the Bengals used the No. 36 overall pick on North Carolina running back Giovani Bernard — the first runner selected in this draft. Bernard could instantly contend for a role on offense as a complement to starting running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
