LeGarrette Blount’s 101 rushing yards against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night in Philadelphia — highlighted by a 51-yard TD run on which he reversed direction after finding no room on a play designed to go to the left side — came as no surprise to Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
“LeGarrette ran for however many yards, whatever it was, his rookie season,” Belichick said Saturday in a conference call. “It’s not like he hasn’t performed well in this league before. We traded for a player that we thought was a good player. It’s no shock he can run the ball. We all know that he did a nice job (Friday) night.”
Undrafted out of Oregon in 2010, the 250-pound Blount rushed for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns on 201 carries as a rookie for Tampa Bay.
