Are The Devils Trying To Acquire Jarome Iginla

The New Jersey Devils made a interesting trade yesterday in acquiring Centerandrei Loktionov from Kings for a fifth round pick. Could the Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello be stock piling players for a bigger deal?

The Devils are still trying to replace the loss of Zach Parise to the Minnesota Wild. Parise had 31-goals last year. Where the Devils lack offensive punch they are stacked on defense. They have eight defenseman and Peter Harold has been a healthy scratch in eight of the last nine games.

The is where Jarome Iginla comes into play. Iginla is a free agent at the end of this season. The Calgary Flames have only played seven games so far this season but they are sitting dead-last in the Western Conference and the Flames just missed the playoffs in 2012. The Flames are trending more towards rebuilding than contending and this will become more apparent as the trade dead=line approaches (April 3rd).

Lamoriello is fond of picking up rental players for a playoff run. Iginla would add scoring and grit to a team that was two wins away from the Stanley Cup last year. Iginla has a no-trade clause but the Devils could be his best shot at a Stanley Cup.
