Angels, White Sox, and Diamondbacks Reportedly Complete 3-Team Trade
Joel Sherman reported early this morning (Twitter) that the Arizona Diamondbacks were determined to leave the winter meetings with either Mark Trumbo or Shin-Soo Choo and it appears they have accomplished the goal via a three way trade that includes the Angels and White Sox.
The Angels are going to send Mark Trumbo and two player to be named later to Arizona. The Diamondbacks are going to send outfielder Adam Eaton to the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox will send Hector Santiago to the Angles to complete the deal.
News of the deal was first reported by Nick Piecoro (Twitter) of the Arizona Republic.
Tyler Skaggs is a 22 year old left handed pitcher who has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Diamondbacks making 13 starts and posting a record of 3-6 with a 5.43 ERA. Prior to the 2013 season Baseball America ranked him 10th on their list of 100 top prospect.
In 2013 with the Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate Reno he appeared in 19 games (17 starts) posting a record of 6-10 with a 4.59 ERA. He had a strikeout rate of 9.3 K/9 and a walk rate of 3.4 BB/9.
Hector Santiago is another left handed hurler who will turn 26 on December 16th. In 2013 he appeared in 34 games with the White Sox including 23 starts and posted a record of 4-9 with a 3.56 ERA. He struck out nearly a batter an inning (8.3 K/9) but struggled with his control with a walk rate of 4.3 BB/9.
Mark Trumbo appeared in 159 games for the Angles last season and posted a slash line of .234/.294/.453 with a career high 34 home runs and 100 runs batted in.
The Diamondbacks were in need of outfield power as they were last in the majors from the position and Trumbo’s 34 homers were more than the rest of the Dbacks roster combined (MLBtraderumors).
The White Sox acquire outfielder Adam Eaton who will turn 26 on December 6th. He appeared in 66 games (277 plate appearances) and posted a slash line of .252/.316/.360.
