“We are interested in Fujikawa, but we are interested in any free agent reliever out there who has a chance to make us better, and he is certainly one of them,” General Manager Jerry Dipoto said Thursday.
Fujikawa became a free agent this week, so he is not subject to the posting system that players such as Yu Darvish and Daisuke Matsuzaka used to get to the majors. Fujikawa, 32, had 202 saves and a 1.36 ERA in 345 games with Hanshin.
Dipoto spent 25 to 30 days a year scouting in Japan regularly when he worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks, so he is familiar with Fujikawa
