Thanks to a report by Deadspin, we learned that Florida State conducted it’s own investigation on quarterback Jameis Winston when he was accused of sexual abuse. Since the university did not find sufficient evidence to pursue punishment on him, It was clear that Winston was free. While that is true for now, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights is planning to open up another investigation to look into how the University handled the entire case.
According to College Football Talk, the investigation will review how the university handled not only the Winston accusation, but all sexual abuse incidents and accusations over the past three years. It seems that the federal investigation will also look to compare how Winston’s incident was handled compared to a non-football player who has been accused of the same thing.
The Florida State investigation found no evidence to punish Winston, but it did find ways to charge for football players Chris Casher and Ronald Darby. Both players could be facing expulsion for their actions related to the Winston case.
