Teixeira Out Of US Lineup With Sore Forearm

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira has been scratched from the U.S. lineup for Tuesday’s exhibition game against the Chicago White Sox with a sore right forearm.

The injury is not considered serious.

The U.S. was preparing for its opener in the World Baseball Classic on Friday night against Mexico by taking on the White Sox at Camelback Ranch.

The Rays’ Ben Zobrist started at first base for the U.S. team. Twins catcher Joe Mauer can also play first base, though he got the start behind the plate against the White Sox.

Teixeira hit just .251 with 24 homers and 84 RBIs last season, the lowest home run and RBI totals of his career. He was limited to 123 games mainly due to injuries.
