Wil Myers Wins AL Rookie Of The Year Award

Wil_Myers_ROY_2013After joining the Tampa Bay Rays on June 18th Wil Myers posted a slash line of .293/.354/.478 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI. He had a OPS+ of 131, a wOBA of .357, and a wRC+ of 131 and amassed a fWAR of 2.4. For his efforts he was named the American League Rookie of the Year Award finishing ahead of teammate  Chris Archer and the Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias.

Myers received 23 first place votes, Iglesias 5, and Chris Archer 1. Overall, Myers received 131 points, Iglesias 80 points, Chris Archer 35 points, and the Oakland Athletics Dan Straily recieved 15 points.

Myers joins teammates Evan Longoira (2008) and Jeremy Hellickson (2011) as previous Rookie of the Year winners.

Myers said, “It’s awesome, just to be  a finalist for something like this and to be able to come out and win it is awesome. I can’t thank the fans enough and my teammates for being able to support me everyday.”
