Red Sox Nation, which by the way was far more charming before they won a World Series title. Now they are just as bad as the Yankees fans that for so long they despised.
Meanwhile, over the past six winning season’s only the Yankees have won more games than the Rays. They have been in the playoffs in three of those six season’s and done it all with a budget that is just a fraction of what Boston and New York shells out. But respect, no the Rays don’t seem to get their share of it from the national press.
The last time that these teams met in the playoffs, in the 2008 AL championship series. Tampa Bay won despite blowing a 7-0, seventh-inning lead in Game 5 and then losing Game 6 to force a decisive seventh game. You could make a case that the Reds Sox team of 2007 was far better than the one the Rays face this time around. You could say the same about the Rays as they enter in ALDS. Much has been said about Boston taking the season series 12 games to seven but if you look inside the numbers Rays fans have a reason for hope. The Red Sox won nine of the first 11 matchups between the teams this season, but Tampa Bay has won five of eight since getting swept in a doubleheader June 18.
