Rays Remain Perfect In Challenges After Bang Bang Play At First Overturned

Rays Win Second Challenge In Two Days

In the top of the second inning Robinson Chirinos of the Texas Rangers sent a ground ball bounding toward centerfield. Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar stabbed it, wheeled, and fired a bullet to first baseman James Loney. The umpire called Chirinos safe and Joe Maddon came out and eventually challenged the call. After approximately a minute and a half delay the umpires returned to the field and switched the call to out at first.

It was the second time in two days that the Rays had a call overturned in their favor. During Friday’s game a soft line drive that Wil Myers made a sliding grab of was ruled a trap and overturned to an out (LINK).

I am a fan of all sports but am most passionate about baseball. From the fanatical to analytical, nothing about the game escapes me. Being born and raised in Northeast Ohio I'm very familiar with the heartache and pain that sports can bring and hope that I bring some understanding of the other side to my coverage. I will focus mostly on baseball but also cover the Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the most electric franchises in all of sports. Always willing to converse about any sport and have only one rule and that is be respectful at all times.
