Rays And Wesley Wright To Part Ways

Wesley Wright To Be Non-Tendered By Rays

The Rays have until midnight this evening to tender a contract to their arbitration eligible players. The arbitration eligible Rays and their expected 2014 salary (provided by MLBTraderumors) are David Price ($13.1M), Matt Joyce ($3.7M), Jeremy Hellickson ($3.3M), Wesley Wright ($1.4M), Sean Rodriguez ($1.3M), Jake McGee ($1.2M), Jose Lobaton ($1M), Cesar Ramos ($700K), and Sam Fuld ($900K).

W_WRIGHTWhile Price, Joyce, Hellickson,  McGee, Rodriguez, and  Lobaton are all easy choices the others including Wright,  Ramos, and Fuld are a little more difficult.

Earlier tonight we found out that the Rays were not going to tender a contract to Sam Fuld and now according to Roger Mooney of TBO.com (Twitter)  the Rays will part ways with left-handed reliever Wesley Wright.

Wright was acquired (for cash) from the Houston Astros on  by the Rays on August 12th. The soon to be 29 year old Wright appeared in 16 games for the Rays logging 12.1 innings allowing just 4R/ER on 9 hits (2 home runs) striking out 15 while walking only 3.

Wright became expendable with the emergence of Alex Torres who joins Cesar Ramos and Jake McGee in the Rays bullpen and lefty rookie C.J. Riefenhauser knocking on the door.

I am a fan of all sports but am most passionate about baseball. From the fanatical to analytical, nothing about the game escapes me. Being born and raised in Northeast Ohio I'm very familiar with the heartache and pain that sports can bring and hope that I bring some understanding of the other side to my coverage. I will focus mostly on baseball but also cover the Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the most electric franchises in all of sports. Always willing to converse about any sport and have only one rule and that is be respectful at all times.
