Timid Approach By Cobb Costly As Jays Defeat Rays 4-2

Alex Cobb‘s first start of the 2014 season did not go all as planned. He allowed his first ever 3-run home run to Adam Lind in the first inning and was just a tick outside the strike zone through much of his five innings of work.

The Bright Side: The Rays bullpen worked the final four scoreless innings giving the Rays offense the opportunity to come back.

The offense nearly did against the Jays bullpen adding a run against Jays setup man Steve Delabar in the eighth  and another against Sergio Santos in the ninth.  The Rays were able to get the go ahead run to the plate and had the tying runs in scoring position for Yunel Escobar who was caught looking to end the game.

MATT JOYCE: Is batting .800/.778/1.000 (4-for-5) over the first 2 games (2-BB)…has reached base or driven in a run in 8 of his 9 plate appearances.

I am a fan of all sports but am most passionate about baseball. From the fanatical to analytical, nothing about the game escapes me. Being born and raised in Northeast Ohio I'm very familiar with the heartache and pain that sports can bring and hope that I bring some understanding of the other side to my coverage. I will focus mostly on baseball but also cover the Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the most electric franchises in all of sports. Always willing to converse about any sport and have only one rule and that is be respectful at all times.
