David Price Tabbed Opening Day Starter For Rays

As Expected David Price Named Rays Opening Day Starter

Prior to the Rays game against the Pittsburgh Pirates Manger Joe Maddon caught up with David Price in the teams kitchen and informed him that he would be the teams opening day starter against the Toronto Blue Jays on March 31st.

Price will be making his third opening day start and he is still looking for his first victory. In both 2011 and 2013 the Rays were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles. In 2011 the team lost 4-1 and he gave up all four runs in 7 innings of work and last season the Rays fell 7-6 and he allowed two runs in 6 innings.

After a winter of trade speculation Maddon is thrilled to have Price leading the teams rotation.  “All I know is this,” Maddon said. “When you see him here now, I try to visualize him not being here now and the different feeling that would engender. And it would be an entirely different feeling without him being here. It’s really good to have him back.”

Price spoke to The Tampa Tribune’s Roger Mooney and said that he is excited that since he gets to throw the first pitch of the season he gets to set the tone for the rest of the season.

I am a fan of all sports but am most passionate about baseball. From the fanatical to analytical, nothing about the game escapes me. Being born and raised in Northeast Ohio I'm very familiar with the heartache and pain that sports can bring and hope that I bring some understanding of the other side to my coverage. I will focus mostly on baseball but also cover the Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the most electric franchises in all of sports. Always willing to converse about any sport and have only one rule and that is be respectful at all times.
