Alex Cobb Takes Big Step Toward His Return To Rays

Alex Cobb On Pace To Return Thursday Afternoon Versus Oakland

Alex Cobb made an official rehab start for the Rays Advanced A affiliate Charlotte Stone Crabs and delivered five scoreless innings allowing just three hits striking out nine and walking two. He threw 64 pitches 46 for strikes and uncorked two wild pitches.

After the game he was upbeat and positive about his performance and about how he felt physically. As long as he does not experience any soreness following his stint tonight he should make his next start with the Rays Thursday afternoon against the Oakland Athletics.

Cobb started the season 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA and was outstanding in his final start against the Cincinnati Reds on April 12th pitching seven scoreless innings on four hits striking out five and walking none. He was lifted from the game as a precaution and the next day an MRI revealed a strained oblique landing him on the disabled list.

In the 31 games entering tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Angles the starting pitchers has posted an 8-10 record with 4.45 ERA.

I am a fan of all sports but am most passionate about baseball. From the fanatical to analytical, nothing about the game escapes me. Being born and raised in Northeast Ohio I'm very familiar with the heartache and pain that sports can bring and hope that I bring some understanding of the other side to my coverage. I will focus mostly on baseball but also cover the Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the most electric franchises in all of sports. Always willing to converse about any sport and have only one rule and that is be respectful at all times.
