Aroldis Chapman Suffers Fractures Above Left Eye And Nose

The Cincinnati Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman was carried off the field last night after getting hit in the face with a line drive off the bat of Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez.

He was taken to Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center where x-rays revealed fractures in his left eye. He was transferred to Banner Good Samaritan Hospital where he spent the night and will undergo further tests.

His manager said after the game, ‘He never lost consciousness, He was able to communicate. He was able to move his hands, his feet, his legs. I’m not a doctor. I don’t want to go much further than that. It got him pretty flush just above the left eye is what it looks like.”

After a 12-minute delay while trainers and medical personnel attended to Chapman the game was called with the Royals being credited with a 6-3 victory.

This is the second time the Royals have been on the field for an incident like this as it was a line drive off the bat of Eric Hosmer that hit Alex Cobb and caused him to miss 2-months of the 2013 season.

According to Royals manager Ned Yost Salvador Perez was understandably shook up after the game.

Update: Chapman was diagnosed with fractures in his face near his eye and nose.
