Negotiations With Robinson Cano & Seattle Mariners Ends On Sour Note
Reports out of the great Northwest indicate that the talks between Robinson Cano‘s team led by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) Brodie Van Wagenen and rapper Jay-Z (Roc Nation Sports) with the Seattle Mariners have broken down due to Jay Z’s excessive contract demands.
The initial news was reported by New York Daily News Mark Feinsand on Twitter.
Source: Robinson Cano and Mariners talks broke off after Jay Z’s excessive demands. Looks like Cano is NOT going to sign with Seattle.

In a followup article penned by Bill Madden, Teri Thompson, and Feinsand (NY Daily News Link) it was reported that the Mariners had a 8-year/$200M offer on the table and were willing to go to 9-year/$225.
Sources suggest that Jay-Z pressed for 10-year/$252M deal. With this demand its reporteed that Mariners President Howard Lincoln “exploded”.
For the moment the talks have broken down and it appears that Cano and the Yankees are back to where they started.
Whether Cano was interested in the Mariners or not the news of the breakdown of talks in such a negative manner eliminates the leverage that Cano’s camp held with a second team being involved.
