Derek Jeter Wants To Return Early

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter said on Monday that he talked to general manager Brian Cashman to plead his case for returning to the big leagues ahead of the team’s timetable.

Jeter, who played in his third minor league rehab game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday night, said he’d like to return to the Yankees “as soon as possible.”

Manager Joe Girardi on Sunday all but ruled out Jeter returning to the Yankees before the All-Star break. The Yankees resume play on July 19 against the Boston Red Sox after the break, which begins on July 14.
