The New York Yankees have activated infielder Brendan Ryan from the disabled after being sidelined since spring training with cervical spine nerve injury.
Ryan takes the roster spot of pitcher Michael Pineda, who completed his 10-game suspension for using pine tar and was placed on the 15-day disabled list today with a right shoulder muscle injury.
While being penalized for having pine tar on his neck on April 23, Pineda hurt himself throwing a simulated game on April 29. The Yankees said they expect Pineda will be sidelined three to four weeks.
