Their starting pitching was dominant during the playoffs, and the rotation’s top four – 21-game winner Max Scherzer, 2011 Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander, 2013 AL ERA champion Anibal Sanchez and reliable veteran Doug Fister – will be back.

Detroit seems to have found a long-term answer at shortstop in defensive whiz Jose Iglesias, who made several impressive plays in the field during the postseason.

“We’ll still have the team intact. We still have a good ballclub and I expect to be back in this position next year,” Torii Hunter said.
