With a strikeout of the Rays’ Wil Myers in the second inning of today’s game, Yu Darvish has recorded his 500th career strikeout. Darvish is the fastest to do so in MLB history as it took him only 401 2/3 innings to do so.
The previous record holder? Kerry Wood, who recorded his 500th career strikeout after 404 2/3 innings.
As the time of the strikeout Darvish’s career strikeout rate was 11.20 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Now a handful of relievers do that every year, but that is a ridiculous number for a starting pitcher.
