The Kansas City Royals have reached a deal with veteran southpaw Scott Downs, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports. Louis Coleman has been optioned down to Triple-A to make room for him on the roster.
Downs, 38, was released by the White Sox three days ago after posting a 6.08 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 23 2/3 innings for them.
Tim Collins hasn’t been as sharp as Royals fans are accustomed to him being, so if Downs can get back to his old form he could be a big help for the Royals late in games.
Though he struggled in his time with the White Sox this season, Scott Downs had pitched to a 2.33 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP in the previous seven seasons.
